Finding an Independent Financial Advisor?

Hi

I was wondering if someone could point me in the direction of where to look for an IFA who is "whole of market" (i think thats the term Martin uses?!) in my area?

Thanks

IFAs have to be whole of market.

https://www.unbiased.co.uk is the uk database for IFAs.

Are you looking for an IFA or a Mortgage Broker who is 'Whole of Market'?
I am a Mortgage Consultant and don't like to be told what I can and can't put in a signature so long as it's legal and truthful.

Ummmm now you are asking. Im not sure (i know i sound dumb). It will be for helping me source a mortgage and also see how much i could borrow etc.

  • So what you want is a Mortgage Broker who is Whole of Market. I would suggest you try your Thomson Local, BT Phone Book, Yellowpages, thomsonlocal.co.uk thephonebook.co.uk or Yell.com

To start with though, I'd ask your friends if they've used one they would recommend.

If you Google for a Mortgage Broker, you might not get a local adviser.

Personally I would not recommend the Yellow pages type directory- yes its a way to find local finds but ads are often placed by ( not local) larger firms - the online versions also sometimes just lead you to a " lead farm" where they sell your name.

Someone how has spent big money on leads / advertising is less likely to offer a low cost solution.

    Use friends/family recommendation

    OR try
    http://www.findapro.co.uk/

    or there's
http://www.impartial.co.uk which lists IFAs who also do mortgages - plus is now allowing mortgage advisers to get listed ... albeit again free listing giving an inferior placing

I recommend a good broker but they are not based in Kent!

    Yellow Pages?

We don't advertise in Yellow Pages. Its useless. I wouldnt say it was a good way to find a broker either.

The best way to find a local broker is word of mouth IMO. Talk to friends / family / work mates and see who they recommend. I firmly believe this to be the best way to find a good broker and vice versa for brokers to find good clients. I get my best business from word of mouth referrals.

I do but I am seriously considering not renewing it next year. It has generated one average business case in 5 years. Its not worth the effort.
