I cant see a space in the BSM website shopping basket to add codes. Anyone else?

After the way HSBC sacked thousands of call centre staff and transferred jobs to India I am removing all my money from HSBC until they do a U turn and start driving jobs back to Britain.

I have to say what a really backwards attitude, as a keen money saver I totally understand HSBC's drive to outsource their call centre to India. It just makes financial sense.

I admit that it is a bit harder to understand the dialect but to move away from a bank just for that seems remarkable to me. You could end up moving banks allot too.

not that i wish to encourage the off topic discussion but...

it may make financial sense on paper but unless it's a 0800 number it's going to take twice as long on the phone each time to get a reasonable response. It's not just the dialect problem but, in my opinion, the whole service offered by these call centres abroad is generally far inferior to the service provided by UK call centres. It's the old case of 'you get what you pay for' (but it's the consumer that ultimately pays either way so there's little benefit to us - and i very much doubt any potential savings are passed on to the consumer rather than the shareholder!): these call centres are run on the cheap, getting through the calls as fast as possible, with dubious employment rights and dodgy ways of treating the staff. And they'll probably make up a British sounding name to throw you off track AND we're screwing over their country while doing so by placing an extra value on foreigners being able to mimic a British accent. It may make "financial sense" but i'm not sure it makes "sense" from any other perspective.
  • I suppose we are going off topic

I'll just add you have a very good point about the cost savings not being passed on directly but I am sure the consumers will benefit in the long run. I actually saw a TV programme where they showed behind the scenes in these call centres and to be a member of staff at one of these establishments is considered a privilege , they have excellent facilities and earn a huge wage in comparison to the rest of the country, they even had a full size snooker table to play on in one such centre.

With HSBC its only the customer care and telephone banking that has been outsourced to India.

I am not defending HSBC's decision but I just think you have to consider what you would do if you were the decision maker at HSBC, I know I would probably outsource it too.

If it doesn't work as a cost savings solution the can always revert like Dell did in the U.S, I believe too many people complained they couldn't understand the dialect

    This would of helped.
However, I am disgusted to note that as my daughter is already using BSM she is unable to use this offer.
So this is customer care and loyalty?
    Time to move on.

I personally used a independent driving instructor, Worked out at £19 per lesson with him and others. AA and BSM worked out at £23 I think. And also independent drivers will give you a discount if you book 10 lessons and pay up front.

Interesting, seems that there's nothing to stop me booking a lesson even tho i've already got my licence.

On the BSM vs Independent side of things, apart from the cost aspect you should also consider the quality of instructor, in my experience the BSM ones are normally very young and often new to teaching, they're allowed to use "trainee" instructors who are under the umbrella of a properly qualified one or something like that, but of course you as a candidate don't get to see any of that.

I used BSM and regretted it.
