Not sure where this is supposed to go...

Couldn't find an appropriate thread for this, so hope you guys don't mind if I park it here!

A friend of mine is badly in debt, am trying to help her out.

When we went through her statements we found out that despite her contract running out with the gym they had continued to take payments from her for half a year. We're currently trying to get the money back.

What I'd appreciate help with is whether anyone can tell me whether she would be due any interest on top of the money they owe her? I know there's something about a 'Late Payments' Act but this seems to only apply to businesses. Is there anything protecting individuals who are owed money?

Many thanks and, once again, hope this is the right place.

Thanks,

SG

    Hi and welcome

I got stung like that once with a gym called Fitness First - I cancelled my membership but had forgotten about the direct debit and so they kept taking money from me. I had the devil's job of getting it back. If i were the person in question I would write to the membership dept and explain the situation and ask for a refund, also speak to the bank as money has been taken from the account without authorisation. Sorry but I don't know about claiming interest on the money.

Point your friend in the direction of this board so that she can post her statement of affairs and the good folks on here will be able to offer good advise on how to clear her debts.

Also free advice from the CAB might help with clawing that dosh back from the gym.

I'll have plnety more if your buddy posts her SOA.

How about asking at Citizens Advice Bureau about the interest part SG, I'm sure they'd know.. or find out for you.

I quite agree with Horace and Jacks about your friend putting a SOA on, you can find one here

    Best wishes to her.
