People across Kent will be celebrating in style when the Beijing Games hands the Olympic torch to London . August 24 th 2008 marks a major event in the run-up to the 2012 games and it will be a major event for Kent as the county is one of the most active in the country for its planned celebrations.
Besides the street parties, fireworks and special events planned, the Kent Campaign for the 2012 Games, lead by Kent County Council, has teamed up with the Kent Alliance of Leisure Trusts to open their swimming pools to the public for free for to mark the handover.
Free swimming will be on offer to all ages at pools in Canterbury , Sevenoaks, Gravesham, Thanet, Ashford, Dover and Tunbridge Wells. Visitors will be able to drop-in to their nearest pool to enjoy swimming and find out where they can take part, coach, and volunteer or get advice about other sports on offer in their area.
