Should we be chasing the lender ourselves?

Hi
We've been waiting ages for our mortgage offer from First National to come through. What we were originally told should take 2 days....10 days...any day now...has stretched to 2 months, and 10 days ago they decided if they do give us an offer it'll only be for 80% not 90%, we grimaced, said ok then give us an offer on that basis and it all went quiet again.
Our IFA's great and i do believe he's doing everything he can to get them to produce an offer, but I was wondering if there's anything to be gained from us chasing FN direct ourselves as well. I don't want to get obsessed by it, and if it won't help i won't bother but if a couple of phone calls could get things moving then I'd feel stupid for not putting a bit more effort in.
The business development manager (i think?) was supposed to be getting involved at one point because it's all taken such an unreasonable length of time but we've not heard anything more about that for a while and it's clearly not done any good.
Anybody have any ideas for speeding things up?
