remortgage costs

Hi,

I've just had a quote from a solicitor to handle my remortgage for £550 all in.

Is this reasonable considering the following -

I am staying with the same lender
I am keeping the same mortgage terms
It's the same house

I'm not an expert, but not sure why you need a solicitor if you're staying with the same lender?

Surely it's just a case of speaking to them and switching to a new product?

If you're staying with the same lender and assuming the names on the mortgage/deeds are staying the same then you won't need a solicitor.

Ah, there's the sticking point. I am changing the mortgage from joint to solo

I did that and although it was 9 years ago it only cost me £50 to get my name off the deeds.

Transfer of equity should generally not be that much in terms of cost.

Could I do this myself or do I need a solicitor to officiate? If I can do it myself, does anyone know how I would go about it.

Cheers for the help so far. :)

I'm paying £420 and I'm changing to a different lender. Also, I'm in Scotland, where I think the costs tend to be higher.

I was quoted £350 from a solicitor for transfer of equity originally.

However as I am remortgaging and taking my ex's name off the deeds the mortgage lenders solicitor will do it for approx £150.
