new mortgage with partner

my partner has had his current mortgage for 2 years, he needs to re-new this and is currently looking for new deals. he has approached natwest and they have advised him to continue with the application i need to sign a form to say that if for any reason he cannot continue with the mortgage repayments (bearing in mind that his credit is fantastic) then i cannot claim squatters rights. can they stop the application if i dont sign the form they want?

This is quite normal. Any adult not named on the mortgage has to sign this waiver. If you don't sign, they won't give him a mortgage.

  • but if i'd moved in with him just after he'd agreed the mortgage then they wouldnt have been able to do anything about this then, would they?

My own son had to sign one of these because he was 18 and still living at home

You would have had less rights as the mortgage would have pre-dated your residency.

Then the mortgage would have come before your occupation, which is different.
