AMEX have passed debt onto DCA

Sorry if I've posted this on the wrong forum (should it have gone on the cc forum?). Somebody feel free to move it if need be.
I have just over £3000 owed to American Express (I owe other credit cards plus the bank but that's another story). Even though I've been out of work for a while (not been claiming benefits) I've been keeping up with the payments.
The last couple of months have been really tough, though I am really trying to get myself sorted out, and I've now missed two DD payments to AMEX. I spoke to them 3 weeks ago, after the first failed DD payment, explaining my situation and that I wouldn't be able to make any payments for a couple more months. I thought that by notifying them I'd bought myself some breathing space but they have now passed the debt onto a company called Allied International (based in Glasgow) and another £565 has been added to the debt, so it's now just short of £3700
According to Allied International if I pay off the full original amount in the next 24 hours (impossible) then no further action will be taken. If I don't, then they'll be sending me a Statutory Demand for the £3700. I will then have 21 days to make full payment. That will be impossible too. They will then issue a CCJ against me for the debt. Obviously I don't want that to happen, my credit-rating is surprisingly OK and a CCJ would destroy it.
OK. That's it. I'm not sure what to do next

Hi
Please ring http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help
Most statuatory demands are bully boy tactics but I think AMEX is a different ball game.
And if you did get hit by a CCJ, you would have to pay what you can afford.
And please start claiming benefits ASAP.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
arethey solicitors, of 'just' a collction agency (DCA) ?
as i undestand it, a DCA they take a percentage of any monies recovered, so the extra they have lumped on maybe just that- naughty!
try to make up arrears by paying extra the Amex direct (paying to DCA wil set a precedent, implying you accepted their involvement, and costs?)
the card co will have final say, and if pymts show regularly, i am sure they would refer that and savea few ££ comish.. unless the debt was sold on, then they wont care as probably written off their books.Long time away from MSE, been dealing real life stuff..
Sometimes seen lurking on the compers forum :-)0 -
Firstly , we always say never talk to DCA on the phone . They will try and pressurize you into payments you can not afford . Only pay what you can afford to unsured loan . Never pay them before things like rates etc . Bottom line is to go to court will cost them alot of money , and a JUDGE will only order payment you can afford . If its a £1 , that will be it ,and DCA will have to lump it . When was card taken out ?0
