advice with credit cards please

I have several credit cards with quite high balances, and I am about to hit a bit of a financial crisis. I don't think I can make next months minimum payments, but I am not in arrears with anyone at the moment. Should I contact the companies now, and ask them for some help, and if so what could they do, and what do I say.
Does anyone know about this, or has anyone been in this situation.

Hi
There is a real risk that their response will be to increase the interest rate.
Can you sell anything on e-bay , amazon or at a car boot sale?

Post up your full SOA, so we can find place you can save money? If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I have done the ebay bit ( loft now empty ), and I have subscribed to a few mystery shopper sites which give me occasional work but its not enough. I am applying for WFTC but they lost my application and I have to start again. I will post my SOA very soon but there is very little scope for saving any where. It seems pointless to save a few pounds here and there when I am in debt for thousands, I know that every little bit helps but it just seems like grains of sand in a desert.0

Every penny helps, when I first logged on here I had 3 loans and a credit card, as well as a loan from my parents.
Now I have a cheque in the mail for the last loan and just the credit card to go.
If you post your SOA we can probably shave quite a bit off that you can use as extra payment to one of the cards.
The one with the highest interest should go first, but if you have one with just a small balance to pay, maybe paying that first will be a big psycoloical (sp) boost, and will also free up payments for the next card.Debt Free as of 17/01/2009 Turtle Power!!
