Hi, I want advice on buying a two handset DECT phone with answerphone. Looking for something that is not Binatone or unheard of make. Obviously as cheap as poss but around the £50. I have found some BT ones which fit the bill at £49.99 but wondered what else I should think about.
Thanks.
Thanks.

Try this company which has some very good deals:

The one thing about BT products is that they produce some very good quality items, even if not always the cheapest. Some BT ones are cheap here, though."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0 -
Argos have these...

I've had an older version of these for a couple of years, only complaint is they don't have a headset socket (works well with a Doro handset which has one though).

This is exactly the one I had in mind, but its only 49.99 at comet. Am thinking I may go for the philips at Argos (above) as it does look a bit nicer.0 -
If you are happy buying on ebay I would suggest the Philips Onis 200 (not the 300!!!). We have one and it has proved faultless. You should be able to pick up a twin for around £35. Plus P+P.
Take your time and you should get a bargain.0 -
I've got a set of BT XC 500s which are no longer produced but I picked up from eBay. I'm not sure that I'd buy from eBay again - often these are refurbished products. I had an issue with one seller where he sent me the wrong handset for my base unit, after I'd returned one set to a different seller because they were DOA! If you do buy from eBay try to buy from a 'shop' who deal in plenty of electrical products (I did - hence being able to return the first lot and get the second one replaced).
One thing I would say is to check that whatever you buy is GAP compatible - a GAP compatible phone will allow you to add further handsets onto it in the future. So you might only need two handsets now, but it'd be nice to be able to integrate any future ones into the set (if you can - of course - pick ones which aren't already out of production!)0 -
Don't forget that you don't actually have to buy a DECT phone with answering machine. You could always use the free 'BT Answer 1571' To activate this service on your phone is just call 1571! It's simple, and for BT customers, FREE!
1571 can store up to 10 messages, all with a maximum length of 2 minutes. A start stop dial tone will be heard when there is a message on 1571, so you know when you have a new message. It's especially useful if you have a dial-up internet connexion, since another great part of the service is that you will not be able to connect back up to the internet if you have a 1571 message on that same line."Some say the cup is half empty, while others say it is half full. However, this is skirting around the issue. The real problem is that the cup is too big."0
