Contributions went under wrong NI Number

Hello.
I was working for a company for 9 months, and noticed after I left that they had one letter in my National Insurance number wrong. I spoke to them and they said it would be fine - the payments would be under my name.
I called the Contributions agency to make sure, and they didn't make any sense - said I should get the jobcentre to send my file over.
Does anyone know if I'm alright or not, and how I can make sure that my NI was paid for that period?

The letter on the end does not matter so if that was wrong you do not need to worry. If any of the letters prior to that are wrong then the contributions may well have gone elsewhere.
When I called them, that is what I was told and they were able to confirm with my over the 'phone what had gone onto my records which was correct. My employer used the incorrect letter on the end for nearly three years before I finally had to speak to someone higher up than payroll to get it put right.0 -
It's not the letter on the end unfortunately0

The same thing happened to me, my national insurance contributions went onto somebody else's account for about 2 years before I spotted it and flagged it to my employer.
Unfortunately they were not helpful at all and I had to approach Inland Revenue National Insurance contributions directly to get it sorted out. At first, they refused point blank to do anything about it saying they would consider doing something about it the next time I needed to claim for something from them!
As it happens, I left my job and went travelling for a short time then came back to the UK did some temping work but ended up having to sign up for job seekers allowance. No prizes for guessing that they refused me any benefits on the grounds that I had "not made enough contributions in the last 2 years"!!!
I explained to them about the mistake and it took about 8 months in total going for interviews and getting it sorted out. They made such a balls-up that I had to reapply for a NI number all over again!
They made me jump through hoops to prove my identity and I had to show them all my ID and pay slips over and over again.
When I eventually got the new number I wrote them a furious letter about how I had been refused benefits and how I had suffered financially as a result and threatened legal action. They sent me a cheque pronto!
I do sympathise with your position and urge you to contact the NI contributions office ASAP to get it sorted out otherwise your records may not be correct when you next need some help from them.
Your case probably wont be as long winded as mine, as I had the added complication that I was out of the country when I was 16, and they made a mistake with my original number and that made it twice as complicated!
I recommend that you try contacting Inland Revenue National Insurance contributions office in Newcastle for some help.
