Soap - use by date question

Do you think you have to use soap within a certain amount of time? I have found some Chanel soaps at my nan's house, but they will have been there for several years (more than 4 at a guess)

Do you think I can use them - they are still in the celophane and boxes.

Thanks

Can't think of what harm it would do to try them...I would def give it a go.
  • I find it hard to imagine soap would go off although if its scented it may have lost its scent by now also goes for the colouring. Shouldnt think it would be harmful to use it.

I've used soap that was older than yours before, and am still here to tell the tale.:D I think it'll be perfectly fine.

    Just use it!

When I moved out from my parents (around 15 years ago). My gran put together a pack of toiletries, which contained 2 x bars of lux soap.

They still had their original price tags on, 3 1/2 p

Commercial soap is fine to use if it's old, although some handmade soaps will go off after a while when made with certain oils that oxidise quickly (such as sunflower).

If anything it's age will improve it in that it will be longer lasting because it is that much dryer!

I'd certainly use them... but I'm wondering if you'd make more money on ebay with them - vintage collectors looking for some in original packaging?

4 years is nothing. I have a collection of hotel soaps which go back well over 25 years. I occasionally look through them and you can tell if any have gone off. If it looks fine, it probably is fine. As for my collection of soaps - well, it's funny the things you collect when you're a child!!! They don't make them how they used to though...
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...

My mum started collecting hotel soaps for me when I was a child. I had had a collection of sea shells which she had stepped on and reduced to dust and the guilt led her to collect hotel soaps every time she went with my dad on business trips... I can't say I add to the collection these days because I just don't manage to visit posh enough hotels - lol!

And I can recall getting my Brownie collector's badge for collecting labels from French food tins - again, my mother's idea!!
Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...
