Bank account Pre/post BR

Hiya all,

As I'm on the home stretch now (I'm ignoring the ongoing Car issue and desperately trying to think positively right now), I need to think about bank accounts and starting to rebuild my life, so question - should I just wait until after I am discharged to get a bank account (I don't currently have one), or is it better to get one now?
Once I am discharged, should I wait until I have a piece of paper saying I am discharged to take along with me when I apply? Do they ask on the application form 'have you ever been bankrupt?'? - It's been a long time since I applied for such things.

I'm fully prepared that it will only be a basic basic account - that's all I ever want anyway, but it's gotten to the point I am starting to resent my OH for 'taking' all my wages and having to ask him for £5 here and there if I want to pop out and buy some toilet roll, so think it's best that I take steps to start to be able to control money again, and having somewhere my wages can be paid into, somewhere I can pay rent from and somewhere I can put a little bit of money aside each month for a rainy day would be good.

Thanks in advance,
Pix x

If you have no debts with Barclays or the Co-Op, you should be fine opening an account with them now.

Hope this helps and all the best!!! ;)

Hi Pixie, the choice of bank accounts will be pretty much the same for you now as they are after discharge, so you could open one now. There's no need to tell the OR when you do.
