Well, perhaps not quite as severe as that!
But I am halfway to Automatic Discharge! :T:T I have just under 6 months to go now and I cannot believe it has gone so fast.
I am posting this really for Newbies - there is light at the end of the tunnel (you can buy yourself a new bulb out of your surplus :rotfl:).
I am one of the lucky few. I didn't own my own home, had no assets and kept my car through a surprising stroke of luck. I have still had days where I have wanted to scream, DCA's still chasing and ignoring, my local council who didn't know the law on over-payments (they do now!) and minor frustrations. But these cannot equate for overall sense of relief. The weight that has gone. The nights I can now sleep through (barring a randy OH.....:o), the DCA's I can tell to get stuffed and the distinct lack of rainforests pouring through my letter box.
Yes - it was a life changing decision that I knew would affect me for some time to come. Like right now I am suffering - I desperately need a new people carrier and simply cannot have one, no savings and cannot get a loan, nor can OH.. I even looked at the possibility of getting a new sub-prime credit card and paying it off monthly and backed off quickly when I realised that actually I still wasn't strong enough yet - nearly, but not quite. I am stuck in a 2-bed house with (almost) 5 kids and will never move because we cannot afford to - rents are too high and a mortgage is soooo far out of our reach now. That chokes me, that my kids are paying for my mistake. Although they have never known any different and I do love them lots to make up for it! But they cannot go to Thorpe Park on a whim or even a McDonalds without planning for it.
But nearly there. 5 months, 4 weeks to go! It gets easier. And its not horrific! No-one comes round to brand your forehead with UNCLEAN or tie you up and drag you naked round the streets. There is no prision but its not a bed of roses either.

 You mean that Richard lied to me when he said part of being Br was that he had to drag me around naked:eek: the rat!!;)
Glad its all going ok for you :T nice post that should help to reassure newbies. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

You know what...the people with grown up kids I know that have 'had everything' .the kids don't appreciate stuff half as much as the ones that have been brought up 'frugally'...My mum came from 7 kids, absolutely skint, all ended up working hard, having beautiful houses, no debts....looked after their things.
I live in an area where there are lots of families with big houses, nice cars, private plates, kids get handed money at the drop of a hat....nothing is a 'treat' or a surprise....
I'm sure your kids will be fine. Don't beat yourself up that you can't give them everything. Your love and attention are far more important
