Electric - Billing when Meter isn't registered?
Hi, I'd just like to run this by you lot
I had my meter changed from a token/card meter to a standard billing meter last December. Since then, they've been trying to "register" the meter, and I've been chasing them up over it every few weeks. I've not had any letters, bills or anything from them - except when I've called them and they've told me it's still waiting to be registered.
Last week I spoke to a very helpful lady who raised a complaint/escalation on my behalf. She told me that because the meter isn't registered, they can't bill me for any useage until it's registered with them.
Does this ring any bells with anyone?

Incorrect info I'm afraid. The can back bill you for 12 months so make sure you have been putting money aside.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

Cheers, is this the case even if the meter wasn't registered at all though? They still think I'm on a token meter even though they changed it for me already.0

In my Company if the info is passed on by the customer a specialist team then deal with it to resolve. If a meter exchange is not updated they can work out a reading and get the meter operators to update this on their system. After that the Customer can be billed. Hopefully this should happen in your case.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0

In electricity they register you as the customer for an MPAN (13 digits on botom row of the S number). What they appear to be saying is that the meter exchange has not processed (you dont register a meter), this could be as the result of a failure by 3 parties; the meter operator (who exchanges the meter and sends details of the exchange and readings), the meter reading (because they have not set the new meter up in their system so cant process meter readings or your supplier because they have not process the meter exchange on their system. Suggest you contact them and armed with the info above ask them where is the system the exchange is stuck, if they think you half an idea what you are talking about the are less inclined to fob you off.IT Consultant in the utilities industry specialising in the retail electricity market.

When I moved into the property (Mar 07), I moved the 2 meters (Gas and Elec) to an account with Eon - the house was already with British Gas. At this time they were both prepay meters, but I wanted them to change to normal meters. The gas was done in a few weeks, but I had to wait until December to get the electric changed because they were chasing details for the existing meter from a third party related to BG. In the end they just came out and changed it, I still think they're waiting for information from the previous supplier to be honest :S
I received a bill from them today for £1500 for charges between May 07 and Aug 08, I spoke to a lady in the call centre and she advises me they need to claim the money back I've been feeding into the meter - and have I received a new key/card for my prepay meter!0 -
If the engineer left you a card with all the old and new meter details on it you should be able to give this to Eon for them to action.Self Employed, Running my Dream Jobs0
