Barclays customer scores

a friend has been granted a loan with Barclays even tho she has a ccj and several defaults on mail order & credit cards. Because she has a barclays current acc and had this acct for years no credit check was done. In fact they even offered her the loan during a routine review. can this be true???????

  • Yes, most banks will pre-approve a risk level associated to a customer without the need for further credit checks

HSBC always used to have a policy like this

i.e Mrs A who held a current account would be considered suitable for say 5k worth of risk, so you would get a 3k credit card a 2 k loan without further credit checks being undertake.

It may well be that Barclays have a policy similar, although the always used to credit check.

One other possibility is that Barclays will run credit checks with Equifax & Call Credit, if they have run one with Call Credit and none of this negative data shows ( Call credit hold very limited data at present ) this would also explain it
 It’s hard enough remembering my opinions - without remembering my reasons for them

Every customer of barclays has a pre-approved limit which they must use some sort of internal scoring to decide upon.
