Can someone take my idea and make it dinner?

I have a pack of ready rolled jusrol shortcrust pastry in the freezer, which I want to use. I'm thinking lay it out, make some kind of sausagemeat mix to spread across it, roll up, and bake.
Is that possible? will it work? is it madness?
Any other ideas on what to do with the pastry?

Shortcrust pastry does not make good sausage rolls. I say as someone who tried it once accidentally - it's too crumbly.
Sorry not a meat eater any more so no alternative suggestions, maybe someone else can help. I am visualising a desperate dan type cow pie in my mind though

How about a plate pie with these ingrediants? I haven't made it for a while, but it's yummy!0

whats a plate pie?
i wasn't thinking sausage rolls as much as a sausage roulade-y type thing, like you get in the supermarket with minced beef etc in. can't be jacked making a pie, there is only DH and DS eating properly at the moment since my operation so would be wasteful to cook a whole pie just for them.Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
If you're thinking of a swiss-roll kinda thing, no, I don't think it would work, 'cos the pastry on the inside would be soggy and probably greasy from the sausagemeat. How about sausage and potato pie - fry sausage balls (OK, I know...) first, then layer with sliced cooked potatoes, maybe some onions, and some white sauce. Use the shortcrust pastry as a lid on top and bake.0

not sure what I'm thinking
just want something realllly simple to do as can't stand long etc. if it was filo or puff wouldn't be a problem, but shortcrust isn't as useful. Weight loss to date - 8st 13lbs :j0 -
How about sausage meat pasties?
Roll out pastry. Cut out small circles, fill with sausage meat balls. Moisten edges and close crinkled like a pasty and cook.
You could add, grated onion or apple to the sausage meat for a slightly different taste.
Personally I prefer sausage rolls with short crust pastry.:p£2 Coins Savings Club 2012 is £4

I'd make a giant sausage roll, mixing the meat with grated onion/garlic, then flatten it and cut a lattice design or just slits diagonally across. Then glaze with milk or egg. Although shortcrust will be a little heavier than flaky it will be okay. You can always serve it with gravy and mash to 'moisten'.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Sorry, our posts crossed in the ether. Mine went before I realised you didn't want to bother with a pie. In that case I would just bake the pastry in squares and serve it with whatever else you're having; you could also use them with jam or fruit as a quick pudding!0

I'm making potato and leek 'samosas' with shortcrust for tea tonight; love shortcrust and I've got a ton of potatoes to use up.0
