Do You Ever Buy Something Then Something Crops Up And You Have To Sell It?

This always bloody happens to me, I'm not a big spender but when I do treat myself to something you can be sure something will crop up and it needs sold and you end up lossing money on it.

Latest thing, I bought a Freesat HD receiver thinking ok it will save me paying Sky, Had it 2 weeks, in comes a phone bill £200 and electric at £100, So it has to go, I'm not one for working all hours god sends in order to pay for things, 40 hours a week is more than enough, so I am just going to have to sell it, Before that was a new computer at £299, the car went tits up, and the list goes on, You like to be able to treat yourself to something once in a while but something always crops up

Well, we go for the "work all hours God sends in order to pay for it" option.......so haven't really had to sell something that soon after buying it.

And we solve the HD freesat thing by not having sky in the first place!

With all of these things it is a matter of priority - and that is a personal choice really.

Hope the run of "bad luck" comes to an end soon - maybe an analysis of why your phone bill is so high might be a good place to start to avoid it happening next month too.

(reading back on my post it sounds a bit harsh - not trying to be harsh, honest!)

Phone and electric all come out quarterly, Oddly both come in the same week

In which case how about setting up a monthly direct debit to pay for them instead? Most providers will allow you to do this and it makes budgetting so so much easier?

Or put a note in your diary for 3 months time so that you are expecting the bills to come in, so you won't be tempted to buy anything expensive in the few weeks beforehand?

I think the problem is, I actually think I have money which I don't, end up spending it, then realise that its needed

OK, so time to take a good look at your SOA - work out what you DO have, work out what is due and when, and take it from there.

And if you want to choose to work 40 hours, and no more, then you have to adjust your lifestyle to suit.

Get a pad of paper out and start number crunching - it is the only way to know where you are so you don't get yourself in a situation that is untenable.

If you try and build up a savings account then you will always be able to afford a treat free and clear of your monthly commitments.
Think of all the money you must be losing in the few weeks that you have something for.
