Just noticed this unit comes with a C&R 2 year warantee not RTB! Can anyone confirm what is normally offered? I wanted to know if this is a Misco offer only or a typo!

What is the cheapest for the 901s. I want one (bigger screen better battery etc) but the 701 are <£150 look good value. There is apparently another model due out soon (Sept) to replace the 901 with better battery and ect based on the revised ATOM chipset. I cannot belive the pace the nettop market is moving. I think ASUS hid gold with the 701 they shipped > 2million units so now they are taking the sector seriosly.

Triker did you get the Windows unit or the Linux one? What is the real life boot time and battery using Wifi? Which battery did you get 2200mAh?

901 looks great as the screen is so much bigger than the 7" one but it keeps the small form factor + 2 or 3 mm! Excellent.

Was on the maplin site trying to find a pull cord mini switch for in cabinet lighting for the bathroom (no luck with that, so still looking) and noticed Maplins top seller was their nettop. I would be good to hear from folk who have bought this what it is like a direct comparison with the ASUS and the MSI nettops would be good.

Hi Sorry didn't get back to you sooner.

Erm well to try to answer your questions, my 901 was 299 but through quidco get a bit back.

I got the windows xp version, boot up less than a minute easy and straight on to wifi (which I sorted myself last night so quite proud of myself).

Battery power I'd say on wireless about 4/5 hours. Can't be too specific as I haven't had it connected for all day. Lets just say it's been on 2 hours this morning. Then about 3 hours this evening before I needed to charge it. Though reports on some forums say battery power around 7/8/9 hours.

I'm really happy with this notebook, love it. Going to get my DD a 701 for her birthday.

Excellent 'EEE user Asus eee PC forum' out there for all techie questions and tips.

Good luck with whatever you choose to buy.

If you're on a budget, take a look at the Acer Aspire One which is now £199 at PC World/Currys. There's a 5% off discount voucher on the web and Quidco makes it £179.60

battery life isn't as good as the Asus Eee 901, but for £180 it's a much better machine than the Maplin one.

    There's a good comparison here: http://crave.cnet.co.uk/laptops/0,39029450,49297492-1,00.htm

I had a play with the Aspire today in Currys, and it's definitely not slow. This test using Gimp says it's faster than the Eee : http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2008/08/18/review_acer_aspire_one/page3.html

I had a play with the Aspire one in PC World and agree it isn't slow. However as previously mentioned I also found the Mousepad and buttons useless.

I have bought a eee pc 701 as I wanted it mainly for the portabilit and it fits perfectly in my briefcase without sacrificing anything.

Although Mrs Bar had hid it away untill my birthday in a few days <img>

What is the best rate for a 701 these days?

I've heard the distro from Asus is not keeping pace with updates and some folk have put Ubuntu on their. Any one done this? Saw the Asus and Acer in Currys Acer looked very good (that screen was lovely) and fast but the mouse buttons on the side of the trackpad make no sense I prefer the Asus layout (below trackpad)

I've read that Expansys are going to be doing the 701 for £159.95 this Friday, though I'm not sure where the poster got that info from, maybe an e-newsletter.

Personally the buttons on the Aspire don't bother me, I usually just tap the mouse pad got a click anyway. The keyboard is however much more comfortable to use than the smaller 901 and 701.

I've read that a lot of users have been loading Ubuntu on the 901, there's a forum with details called eeeuser
