Looking for single bed suitable for 5 years and up? Please help.

Options
Hi all,

My little girl is outgrowing her toddler bed. She has been in it since 18 months. I am looking for a single bed with perhaps a bit of storage or even a bunk bed with desk underneath? Now I don't know if this would be okay for a 5 year old or not? Also the prices I have managed to find online vary considerably.

If you can recommend an appropriate bed or could post a link, discount codes or anything it would be really appreciated.

Thanks.

Any single bed would be fine from any of the bed shops, Argos, etc. The only thing you need to be careful with is if it has slats in the headboard or tailboard. I wouldn't go looking for a toddler bed or anything as you will need a bigger bed for her later....

My litte girl went straight into a normal single bed once she was out of her cot at 18 months old - just used a bed guard for a little while. We actually got a "truckle" bed (where a spare bed comes out from underneath) which has been very useful for friends staying over!

Must be honest - I wouldn't have put her in a top bunk at that age - although she never fell out of bed sometimes she used to come into us at night and if she was half asleep I cannot imagine her getting down the stairs in one piece!

My eldest went into the top bunk at the age of 4.5, and has always been fine.

He's recently gone into his own room (at 7, and so his 4.5 year old brother moved up into the top bunk as his 2.5 year old brother came out of his cotbed), and has the storage version of this - http://www.littlewoods.com/rf/navigation/product.do?categoryId=7621723&productPos=0&catno=TB4651C&groupId=478758632&productId=203000254. It's higher than a normal bed, but he likes that, and he needed the extra storage it provides (he didn't want a high sleeper this time). It's more than we'd normally spend on a bed, but it's solid and should see him through a long time.

    :)

For storage, ikea do a rollaway draw white and one other colour ,pine, i think for £25.
Ikea also do the hemnes day bed but thats about £350.That is a single that converts to a double with 3 storage draws.Costco had one of those beds witha rolloway single underneath,in darkwood.

we have just bought our 2 eldest (daughter 7 and son 5) this cabin bed, as we needed the storage underneath

took me about 8 hours to put one together (but I am not the fastest at DIY), have to say instructions were ok, once you got your head around them, and there were no bits missing or damaged, turned up quick from them

It looks good in their bedrooms, and so far no fall outs (although when son was sick last week, I passed him a bowl up and told him to stay up until he had finished as I was not having him being sick all the way down  )

I have to agree with cuffie, try a normal bed and if your child moves around a lot or could potentially fall off the bed, put a guard rail up. My son has been sleeping in a normal bed since he was 2, everything is fine with him right now. The truckle bed is definitely useful, my friend bought one for his son and whenever his son is ill, he is able to sleep next to his son on the pullout bed instead of sleeping on the hardwood floor.
