Odd letter about a loan at this address.

I know I shouldn't have opened it but I did. A letter came through the door this morning addressed to my husband's old housemate. They lost touch about 6 years ago. I was seperating the paper to put in the recycling along with the rest of the junk mail and didn't think anything of it.
Anyway, the letter caught my eye. Again, I know I shouldn't have, but I read it.
It was a bank letter saying it was a termination notice on a business account. He didn't have his own business when he lived at this address. He must have set up one after he moved out, using our address. We've had no mail addressed to him in the last 4 years or so.
The letter said he owed money and as he had not paid his account was terminated and cheque book and card to be returned immediately. To say this man is a bit dodgy would be a kind statement.
So, the man who took out the loan (overdraft I think since there's a cheque book) lied about where he lived and says there's a business running from here. Do we need to do anything? Can we get any grief from anyone? My husband has nothing to do with this.
Thanks.

No.
If you get any more mail addressed to him send it back 'not known at this address'0 -
We got something similar when we moved into new house, last but one occupant got threatening letter from bank - we were doing same or just recycling it thinking it was junk. I just rang the bank, said they hadn't lived there for 6 years and had done a bunk anyway and house was repossessed!! Bank just said "Ok, cheers, we'll cancel debt"
I think the days of an address being black listed are gone but wouldn't hurt to make sure!0 -
Check your credit reference files with Experian and Equifax. That will show if there is a wider problem but it is unlikely. Any debts not in your name are not yours but if they get linked to you on your credit files it can be a pain to sort out, so nip this in the bud.

It is probably just a debt collection agency using previous address information in an attempt to track the guy down.
As posted already, don't worry - check credit file and send back as 'not known at this address' if you get another one.
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.
