Hi there

follow the link below to find out how to apply for the free seeds. Only a limited number are available (1000 of each variety) so good luck!

I'm not brilliant at posting links, so you may need to post it into your browser, but good luck either way!

Thanks, greenishfingers! Your link worked fine, and please do keep posting gardening freebies like this!

good spot, though the website could be clearer regarding the difference between free and not free. it seems to imply you need to pay, which having watched friday's programme, you dont if you are in the first 1000 or so.

  • 1. take one fresh chilli
    2. take some seeds out
    3. stick a few in a pot of earth on your windowsill
    4. a couple of months later you'll have chillis
it really is that simple!. i know, i did it!

Hmm. It will work sometimes, but not others.

If the variety of chilli you take the seeds from is an F1 hybrid, its "offspring" will not come true to type.

    On the other hand ...

But if this system worked for most plants, we'd never buy packets of seeds!

Umm... I know people who keep a few beans for seed the next year. I don't 'cos I'm lazy.

Indeed they do, but the same caveat applies! An F1 variety will not come true, but others probably will!

The storage of seed is a bit of a problem as they can lose their power to germinate if kept in the wrong conditions, and/or could go mouldy. That's why the seedsmen take so much trouble to put seed in foil sachets, etc., before selling them to us.

But keeping and sowing your own seed is fun and always worth a try, so long as you are not dependant on the results!

Thankyou, but I think the offer maybe over now as it did not have a form to complete, presume they have met the 1000 count. Shame. I quite fancy a chiili tree, they look cute and I just LOVE chillis. 2nd best to my hubbys stir fries.

Talking of which Asda do a lovelly thai green sauce for less than 50p and chicken breast is bogof!!!
