Best thing to do is phone the hospital; and ask, the price probably varies from hospital to hospital.

It is possible but you will be told that if the room is needed, say for a particulary sick person that needs a private room for medical reasons, then you will not get it. Similary your Mum could already be in and could still get moved.

Hope your Mum makes a speedy recovery :)

NHS hospitals have private rooms. You can remain under NHS treatment but have a private room. Not offered by all hospitals - contract them directly and ask if they offer the service.
Loopy girl is incorrect - when you are paying for the room, you will not be asked to move.

I work for the NHS and if there is a medical emergency that merits the use of a private room and all other options have been exhausted then you may be asked to move.

The NHS is in the public sector paid for by taxpayers and patient health is top priority over everything else. They are not BUPA.

Edit - to save any arguing I would say that, that is how the trust I work for operate. Best bet is, as others say, to phone and ask and also to check whether the room could be 100% guaranteed.

Leeds General Infirmary does not really have private beds. The side rooms that used to be used as private beds are now used for barrier nursing of people with contagious infections.

There is a wing of the hospital that does sometimes have private patients.
