I have spoken to the National Debt Helpline, CCCS and the CAB who have all advised me to go BK so me and my OH have now booked my app with the courts for 19th September
I currently have a current account with Barclays. Now do I have to tell them that I am going bankrupt? Will they close my account and thats it or will they down grade it?

Hi WBF
Yes, it would be best to tell them and get the new account sorted. They'll almost certainly downgrade your account to the cash card one.
I went with Barclays (although i didn't owe them anything) and they've been fab.
I know other Brs have owed Barclays and have still been offered a cash card account with them. The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. As the angels took your tiny hand and flew you to the sky-you forever left us breathless. RIP my beautiful granddaughter

I used to have a joint account with Barclays. Removed my name before BR. But they said they would just down grade account if I had a full current one.
So they are helpful just do it in plenty of time to allow for cards etc.BSC No: 186 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless someone's nicked the candle !

Barclays were one of my biggest creditors so I opted for Coop account and have been very happy with it. I like it because of the debit card it comes with.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but despite what they they may tell you in branch, and on the phone, they won't simply downgrade your current account. They will close it, without notice, send you a cheque for any money that was in it, and tell you you can open a cash card account with them.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0

If you go in before you go to court, explain the situation. They will open a basic account for you, AND arrange to transfer all dd's in branch. They transferred all dd's from my sole account to joint account in branch no problem.BSC No: 186 There is always light at the end of the tunnel. Unless someone's nicked the candle !
