BR today - Co op account referred

Hi,
As of today, I was made BR. Mixed emotions really and feel like the hard part is yet to come -OR, getting a bank account, people finding out at work (maybe).
I went straight to Co op to open Cashminder account, they were really nice but the application was referred. I took plenty of ID with me which they copied and will sent to HO. Has this happened to anyone recently and what was the outcome? I have never had a Co op or smile account before.
I went to Barlays as well. I have a Barclays account but did not owe them money. I went in to find out about the cash card account, maybe I was being paranoid but I felt quite unwelcome. They gave me the form and sent me on my way.
Need account ASAP as have only 2 weeks to let payroll know and the account has to be in my name.

Hi Lisa
It cn take a while for the reality to sink in so don't expect to feel too mch too soon. You are doing the right thing in trying to open 2 accounts as one could so esily get refused. Well done and  .DFree impartial debt advice available from: National Debtline - Tel: 0808 808 4000 | The Consumer Credit Counselling Service (CCCS) - Tel: 0800 138 1111 | Find your local Citizens Advice Bureau

Congratulations - I know how you feel about the hard part is yet to come but at least you've started the ball rolling.
Shame you didn't get the bank account sorted before BR. Regarding the Coop, ring them in a couple of days, once its approved they should be able to give you the account number. You need to think what you'll do with your wages if your account isn't open. Do you have anyone you trust that has a bank account it can go in? Where does it currently go? I just don't want you to get caught out like Fatou256, they didn't listen to advice on here and didn't have an account, their wages went into the Halifax account and now they cannot get them out. They will be able to get them at some point but it is a lot of hassle!

Thanks everyone,
My wages go into Lloyds and I owed them money, work will only pay the wages into an account in my name.
If It comes to it, I'll apply for either a Think or One banking account. They said they can set the account up then and there. Although it costs to set up and there's a monthly fee, its better than not getting my wages.0 -
Thats good that you're thinking ahead and have all options covered. Lloyds are NOT easy to deal with. 4 months into my BR and they are still sending me statements and texts to tell me how much my business account is overdrawn. I must have spent an hour on the phone today to different departments and still got nowhere! Its mentally exhausting.
