I made an appointment to talk with a CCCS Debt Counsellor, a Lady contacted me yesterday and spent well over an hour talking with me, going through all of my Income and Expenditure, they gave me help, advice and reassurance.
I would just like to tell everyone how much better I feel having talked to a “real person” and to publicly thank them.
Well done CCCS and THANKS :A :A

Glad it went well for you!
What was the outcome of your appointment?I am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.

It's an awesome thing isn't it?
We didn't end up going with CCCS but the time spent talking about our options to a real person - who was knowledgeable, kind, honest, and had no agenda other than to help - was a huge turning point for us.
So based on my personal experience that's why I direct people towards CCCS time and time again on this board.
Have you made any decisions yet?

I found it a huge relief once I'd spoken to CCCS. I'd tried to go it alone but a couple of my creditors recommended I contact CCCS as they were more likely to accept a DMP via them than me doing it myself and true to their words, those two creditors were the first to accept my DMP. It's taken a lot of stress away from me, and creditors know that I am serious about clearing my debts. It's also great to speak to real non-judgemental, sympathetic and honest people who are there to help you and not make money out of you.

I am really pleased that everything went well for you, isgman.
Often the hardest part about dealing with debt is being able to talk with a real person.
Creditors, and often Society in General, tend to treat 'debt' as failure, even when it is those creditors, or that society, that was responsible for at least part of the 'debt' in the first place.
The way that creditors 'deal' with debt is often intimidating, usually demeaning and, in some cases, downright insulting. No wonder the 'debtor' is made to feel 'inferior' and is, often, reluctant to share his/her problem with another 'real person' as he/she has been 'conditioned' to think that debt is heinious and merits the same level of treatment that was meted out to lepers in the sixteenth century.
Small wonder, therefore, that it comes as a surprise, albeit a pleasant surprise, to find that there are still non-judgemental organisations, such as CCCS, CAB and NDL, out there, who are staffed by people whose agenda does not include belittling people less fortunate than themselves.
Websites/forums, such as this one, whilst they serve a useful purpose, are no real substitute for the 'personal' input that only real people can give.
Well done to both igsman and CCCS.I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

Thanks All, the support here is just great, no one makes you feel like a failure, Debt is something that just happened, major change in my income, put my head in the sand, thought it would be OK,, all the usual stuff, unable to go onto a DMP at this time as my debts would just take too long to re-pay, trying to sort out extra income to get me onto a IVA as I don't yet make the 25p in the £ they would be looking for. Time will tell. but I do feel much better now : Well Done This website Well Done CCCS. Thanks Everyone:beer: Keep your Chin up.. it can only get better
