"Shabby chic" 2-tier cake-stands table decorations

I'd like to share a brilliant table decoration idea, as stolen from my friend's beautiful DIY wedding.
Over a couple of months she scoured many charity shops and bought lots of very cheap, mis-matched old crockery; she managed to get some gorgeous, vintage plates - very chintzy and 'shabby chic', which was a great look for her wedding. She also collected lots of short stemmed glasses.
Ingredients:
20 short stemmed glasses
20 dinner plates
20 side plates
Strong glue
To make the cake stand:
1) Use a large dinner plate for the bottom tier.
2) Use a side plate for the top tier.
3) Use an upturned, short stemmed glass to elevate the top tier. My friend glued the glass to the plates with either epoxy resin or superglue (can't recall which).
4) Et voila! Easy as that.
She made loads, really cheaply, and placed them across the length of the tables. She filled them with little cakes, chocolates in tiny gold boxes (one box per person) & tea-lights (in those chunky glass holders from Ikea that cost about 30p each). They they looked divine, and all guests were bowled over by her inventiveness.
She also placed a place-card clip/holder on the top tier, which announced the name of the table.
Then at the end of the night, she announced that people were free to take home the cake stands, as she had no use for so many! People really loved this idea.
