Cheap Wild Bird Food

Having just started feeding the birds I notice that they scoff it down at an alarming rate.

As a novice bird feeder id like to hear from the experts where I can find the cheapest/best sources of bird food to restock my bird table

I buy in bulk from a guy on our market i.e 25kg bags and it works out loads cheaper than buying from a pet shop etc

I buy bird seed from a local farmer's & pet suppliers (common in rural areas, but perhaps less common in cities!). If I remember rightly, a 20kg sack of wild bird seed is £6.25, and a 25kg sack of peanut kernels is £18 (lasts ages). They also have very good prices for dog food in bulk.

You could try yellow pages under "Farm supplies" or "Pet supplies" to see if there is one near you. At least you now have a target price to compare your local supplier with.

Mail order is possible, but delivery charges for heavy weights will probably make it uneconomic.
