Buy Bedding from USA

Hi, I think I'd like some reassurance and duty advice please.

My daughter loves Betty Boop but it is really expensive in the UK. I have found bedding and matching curtains in the states and they have said they will charge around $50 for shipping which still works out alot cheaper than buying it in the UK.

How do I pay the duty? Has anyone bought from the States before .... I feel a little anxious.

Not what you asked I know, but can I give just one word of one about US bedding? Check the polyester count of what you're buying. It surprises me everytine, but alot of their bedding has a really high polyester count, and does not have a nice feel to it. I'd hate for you to go to all this trouble & end up with somethoing uncomfortable.

The duty will be collected by the postman, so even if you're not home when they normally deliver, you will be able to collect it from the sorting office. It's coming up to a busy time of year for them - wait a couple of weeks and you might get away with it altogether. I've never made any huge purchases, but I've made a few which could've been charged duty. £150 worth being my biggest for a Xmas present last year, & I didn't get charged :j , because I think they probably had bigger fish to fry.

Checked the poly count it's 45% and 55% cotton - so I think you're right that it's not as good as UK produce. But, as the Betty Boop bedding on sale in the UK has been imported from the States anyway, I have taken the plunge and ordered. The total cost was around £81 for curtains, sheets, comforter and spare pillowcase and included the 4 - 10 day delivery! In the UK the comforter on its own was £75!!!!

The supplier has said that he will be putting the item down as a gift so I wont be liable for any duty costs.

My daughter is gonna be sooooooooo thrilled when she sees this.
