creditor Letters

Hi everyone I'm a newbie here and just wanted to say a big thanks to everyone for loads of good advice and it's so good to know I'm not alone struggling with debt.
I'm about to send letters to my creditors offering a token payment while I'm waiting for advice from cccs and noticed someone said not to sign the letter only initial it. Why is this(sorry if I seem thick), also should I type my name under the initials or not.
Thanks again for help

That's odd. I sought advise from National Debtline and was not told that...sent my letters off last week, signed. Sorry that's probably not of much help to you, but you don't seem 'thick' at all
it's better to ask than to wonder or presume! I expect someone with a little more knowledge will be along shortly. Debt: £5343.67 + secured loan (August 2008)Target: Just learn to 'manage' at the moment!0 -
I think it might be to cover you in case they are some dodgy company that would forge your signature. I don't know this for fact but it was my initial thought when I was told it.0

Apparently some dca's in the past have used signatures from letters to produce cca (credit agreements) etc.
It's only when you hear some of the horror stories on here that you realise just how devious they can be.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0 -

Welcome to mse by the way. It can take a while to find your feet (at least I did) but once you start everything starts to fall into place and if you get stuck there's plenty of people here to help you.Supporting the Childhood Eye Cancer Trust0

Yup - best known one is a high street bank that used a scanner and a graphics package to create an "original" agreement and submitted this to court. The lady since taking out the agreement had gotten married so the agreement should have been in her maiden name - not her married name that she signed the letter with. After falling off the gambling wagon (twice): £33,600 (24,000+ 9,600) - Original CC Debt: £7,885.91
