feeling better! newbie!!

I just wanted to say I have only just found this site and already I love it.

Debt has been a problem for many reasons over the last few years. Knowing people beat it - is amazing.

I feel better already - now I just need to deal with it - difficult in another country - people tell me to ignore it but I dont want to - I want to go home knowing I have done the best I can to resolve the problems.

Welcome to DFW. Well done on finding your way here. Most people post a SOA up first off, but I don't know how relevant it will be in your situation.

A statement of affairs. The link on Tigerfeets post will take you to a good calculater. You put all your incomings and out goings on it then post it up here (format it to the MSE forum). Then copy and paste it and put it up here and the guys will see if they can help make savings to go towards your debts. But I don't know how useful that would be as you are abroad. But could be worth a try and it will also help you see where your money is going.

Hi and welcome. A SOA is a statement of affairs (see the sticky at the top for newbies). Basically its a list of your incomings and outgoings. Sometimes just writing things down shows you where you can cut back.
Find out who you are and do that on purpose (thanks to Owain Wyn Jones quoting Dolly Parton)
  • Once you have done your SOA an know how much you should have to put towards the debts try this link http://www.whatsthecost.com/snowball.aspx. It shows how quickly you can pay off the credit cards and loans depending on how much you pay and the interest rates.

Another good link is the spending diary because most of us find what should be left each month isnt! http://www.spendingdiary.com/

Finally welcome to the debt free wanabee board.

  • Thankyou all for your comments.

At the moment we have very little income - as our business is just starting.
I know that living in another country makes it hard - but all the card debt is English - I thought we lived in Europe:confused: I am coming home soon for a break and will try and speak to the ccs.... Most of the card companies have been fantastic and very understanding - the fact that we contact them and inform them of our position along with making minimum basic payments is usualy enough to show our commitment.

It is just the American Express card that is worrying me. But I am sure we can resolve it.. We have come so far and done so much Im not going to let this drag me down.
Anyway the sun is shinning and its a lovely day!:j
