Chased after 11 years.....HELP!

I received a contact card from a company called Thames Credit Limited in Bromley today. They say that I owe an amount of money to Granada Stores from September 1997. They can't tell me what it is for except that it may be an electrical item! I wasn't living at the address they've given me at the time BUT I was there 2 years later!! I cannot remember having anything from the company in question. What happens now???? They have said they will send me all the relevant paperwork to my home for me to look at.....I'm a bit worried now as I don't know how this will affect my credit rating. And is the 'debt' viable after so long??

Sounds as if the debt is not yours, but even if it is then the debt would be "statue barred" and so unenforceable (see quote below).
They are not entitled to record anything on your credit reference files after all this time.
From a previous thread:A debt will be "Statute Barred" if there has been no acknowledgement of the debt by you making a payment or in writing within the relevant limitation period.
If you are in England/Wales then the limitation period is 6 years and you should read:
Link: Factsheet | Liability for Debts and the Limitation Act (England/Wales)
If you are in Scotland then the limitation period is 5 years and you should read:
Link: Factsheet | Liability for debts & the Prescription & Limitation (Scotland) Act 1973
If you feel the debt is "Statute Barred", then there is a letter to write at the end of each factsheet.
