    Just to clarify:
Lady Delfont, who died on January 17 aged 89, was, as Carole Lynne, one of the most glamorous stars of the West End in the 1930s and 1940s; subsequently, as the wife of the impresario Bernard Delfont, she was a charming and popular theatrical hostess.

A freind is always updating his gadgets. Blue Ray this, Blackberry that, mobile phones with fast web access, piped music in every room, HD TV etc

In the end though, what really is the value of all this to his life?

Ok so he can get news on his mobile at 3 am under water, but is that a vlaue added? Is'nt it nice to not be fully connected 24/7, and to save up and watch the news later - why all the rush?

This guy isn't a business person or trader, and is not interested in up to the momoent political news. The gagets are just for thier own sake it would seem.

Whats wrong with a bit of contrast in life - you know, not having music in every room of the house? Again these people seem to be want to be bomarded with sounds and info every moment.

I notice when having a get together he is always 1/2 present, in that he constantly looks at his gagets - just in case something better is happening somewhere else. Strange really. You only live about 900 months, 300 of which are asleep.
Id rather have a wlak with the children than have a simbiotic relationship with dozens of meaningless gagets that will all no doubt end up at the dump in 5 years.

Or in unplugging the radio/player picking it up and plugging in in the next room.

Too much tat adds nothing to your life. In fact, I see excessive gadgets as a suggestion of a hole that needs filling with distraction.

There is not enough news to make a daily visit to the BBC website worthwhile.

Music is more interesting if you listen to it rather than just use it as background noise.
    Happy chappy

Have you ever been to Japan? I worked there for a few years. I was quite shocked at how OCD the locals are with electronic gadgets. If you ever get to Tokyo go to Akihabara (Electric City) to see newest gadgets.

BTW, how can anyone live without an electric toilet seat is beyond me;)

I stayed in a hotel in Osaka once. They didn't just have heated seats but also a warm water bottom washer built in too! It was very nice but a bit scary testing it as the instructions were only in Japanese so I didn't know as I pushed the button if the writing said, "For the love of God, don't press this if you're sitting on the loo".
