window advice centre

I am looking for new double glazing in the edinburgh area, have come across this site http://www.windowadvicecentre.co.uk/index.htm and it looks too good to be true! I was wondering if anyone had used them at all?
I called them and they get paid from the contractor that you choose so it appears that they act as a middleman / project manager...

Any feedback would be very welcome!

Thanks

allan

I have posted this in the DIY board too but thought that it may get a reponse here too! Thanks

We got them out about two years ago. They did come up with some good prices and they gave us some localish addressess to view the work. However a number of the companies were based through the West or up North, we are in the south east. From memory I think what put us off was the 10 year guarantee is covered by an insurance policy and the thought of having to go through insurance for any minor defects/faults etc or to try and get a company based quite a distance away to sort any snagging we did not feel was worth the hassle.
We decided on a local company and on hindsight feel we made the correct decision as we have had numerous problems albeit small. The company handyman is out within the week and the matter rectified which is usually only slight adjustments. The price was fairly competative.

Thanks Stormbreaker for the feedback. I am going to get the out for a quote anyway as it might give us some idea of how much to expect. I am also getting a couple of local firms in too so should get a fair spread of prices...

  • Thank goodnes someone has spotted the quality of "Independent " advice given by this Company! Having spent many years with one of the major companies in this industry, I became aware of the general public's belief that cheaper prices gave the same quality as a reputable company which had met all the official quality standards. If a manufacturer has lasted 40 years in the replacement window business, they must be doing something right! "Caveat emptor"!
