Vacuum Packed

Hi

I spent yesterday freezing some veg and as I sat there wondered if anyone 'vacuum packs' the way my mum taught me?

Basically, you scrunch up the neck of the bag, stick a straw in and suck out the air, then seal it. It might sound a bit yuck but it's not too unpleasant, unless you're freezing cabbage :)

For some reason my strongest memory is of doing this with my mum when we had been 'gleaning' peas.

Yup, I do it that way too. Although we tend not to have straws in the house any more, so I just scrunch the bag and suck from the hole now - works perfectly well.

Yes, same here (without the straw)! I got into the habit many years ago when I made up packs of sandwiches for the freezer - they stayed 'together' much better that way. But very recently I picked up a second-hand vacuum sealer thingy (for 3 euros) and am now beginning to do it it the sophisticated way.

That's just what I do as well (without the straw). My kids sometimes think I'm mad and trying to eat what is inside :)
