Applying for a bank account after discharge

I currently have a 'step' account, and I am apllying for a normal current account. It has the question 'have you ever been bankrupt', should I answer this honestly?
I have been discharge for five years or so and my credit report has no record of the bankruptcy, the credit report is sparkly clean as well.
I ask this because a year or so ago I applied in person at Natwest for a current account and he asked the same question, as soon as I replied yes that was it. Interview over and no current account for me!
Thanks in advance
