My tumble dryer has decided it dosen't want to dry my clothes anymore. So.. I was thinking that a new one maybe in order (or possibly a repair). Anyway, the one I have at the moment is a condenser, however, I was wondering whether they were more expensive to run than a vented dryer. I will defo purchase an "A" rated tumble dryer, but am curious to know whether there is a difference in running costs.

There is little difference, it is more the design of the machine:

If you are changing from a condenser dryer to a vented dryer, you will need to remember that vented dryers need to have a venting kit, or be situated near a door, window, or exterior wall, to allow the dryer to be vented.
I have no option but to have a condenser dryer because there is nowhere for a vented dryer to go in my house. Vented dryers seem to be a lot cheaper as well, I have just bought a new condenser dryer because mine broke too.0 -
I've decided to get my fixed (if it's possible). Repair man is coming to my house next week. If it can't be mended, I'll be forced to choose a new dryer.0

The vented one are cheaper to buy but you need either the kit or hang the vent out of a door, window or have a hole in wall
I went for a vented one as its about £80-100 cheaper
This is the one we got

I have venting but bought a condenser dryer as it had good reviews. However, I found it was very poor at drying times in comparison so sent it back and now have a vented model again.somewhere between Heaven and Woolworth's0

Yeah, we had to buy one last Autumn, because our clothes were taking well over 24 hours to dry (and then smelly funky). We search through Which? magazine, and they recommended vented ones over condensers because of the quality/time involved in drying. It does depend on the model of course, but the vented ones generally ended up using less energy to get the clothes dry. It looks a little um, ghetto fabulous with our extra long hose hanging out the conservatory window, but it works.
Be sure to compare prices online if you have to buy a new one, and go through Quidco, etc. We save a bundle, getting some cashback and Nectar points.Pick battles big enough to matter, small enough to win. - Jonathan Kozol0 -
To be honest I dont think there is much difference between the two in terms of running cost but...
We have a condensing drier and find that it heats up the house (or at least the kitchen and conservatory) nicely when its running no doubt saving a bit on our heating bill. A vented drier just throws the heat outside through the vent.0 -
Thanks for the replies and advice, much appreciated.
If I were to get a vented one in the future, I'd probs buy one of those kits that act as a condenser. Not sure if they actually do what they say they do, but hey ho, it's always a risk purchasing things I suppose.0 -
Being devils advocate here - and I don't mind if I get a teeny slap.....well please just don't hurt me:) I always thought of them as a hugely expensive energy grabbing waste of money......(well this is the ethical board...)
Have you tried doing without it long term? We have an old fashioned airer - well two - one ceiling one (£40 all in) and a wee one and use hangers etc to hang stuff up about the house and it generally dries in no time. Oh yeah and one of the sock doobries as well you know the kind that have a bout a billion pegs on and you hang the thing up......
Or am I really that oldfashioned? Two kids, two adults (not a huge house) 2 dogs, beaches on a daily basis and haven't owned a tumble drier since babies were born........... um 1994. Are they hugely more efficient now?
Happy to be gently slapped and given some guidance...... certainly not having a go just very curious why folk have them at allxxTotal debt 26/4/18 <£1925 we were getting there.
Total debt as of 28/4/19 £7867.38:eek:
minus 112.06 = £7755.32:money:
