B&B Hikes prices by 1300% (Runrig Concert)

Options
Called a bed and breakfast in Perth 27th August (the day after Runrig announce their 'homecoming' concert at Scone Palace) here's the jist of the conversation

Them-"Hello Be*ches Guest house"
Me- Hello, I am calling to ask if you have any vacancies for 29th August 2009?
Them- "Is this for Runrig?"
Me - Yes
Them "I don't even have my book for next year, Are you just wanting it [the room] for one night?"
Me- Just one night
Them "I'm really only taking it [bookings] for two [nights]" It will be £50 PER PERSON PER NIGHT

This is where we see an issue of rip off britian. The guest house advertises rooms for £30 per night on the web, and are insisting on a minimum stay of 2 nights at £50 per person - 4 beds including kids =£400, in stead of £30

I don't mind people making a profit ( I run a business), but to put prices from £30 to £400 is a urine extraction.

I couldn't believe my ears.

The call concluded in her saying she was ONLY insisting on 2 nights as there was a Runrig concert, and had NEVER required 2 nights before.

makes my blood boil
baldly going on...

It's what happens in a capitalist society, it's supply and demand. It's only rip off Britain when the same situation doesn't occur elsewhere.

I always wonder though what people would say if they advertised they standard rates as being (in this case) £50 per person per night with a minimum of 2 night stays, and then did promotions for the rest of the year to bring the price down to £30 per room per night.

Wee village called Kirkmicheal used to have a guitar festival. The local pub charged £1.80 for a Gin & Tonic any other night, on the Sat night of the festival - £3.50!!!

What about trying another place? Or camping? Travelodge? premier inn? They all sound like cheaper options

Edit : just checked travelodge website 1 room 29th aug 2009 - £51 per room

If the B&B feel they can get better money for longer bookings they will. Its not a rip off they are just trying to price you out of the stay.

We had a lady in Ireland look us up and down and say £50 pp. We laughed as the rest of the holiday we had been paying £12-15 (a few years back). I think she thought we'd just got off the boat. We camped instead for a few quid and had a great time.

Anyway its not a rip off its just a person who thinks that they can get people to stay for a whole week not just a day. If you want to stay for a day then they'll have to do 3* the washing and changing. People before, you and the people after.

  • Think outside the box a wee bit and maybe stay in Dundee or Dunfermline - not too far away and you might be able to get a Travelodge or something?
