My OH had about £10k of debt with 3 credit cards & overdraft etc when we first got together. He was paying the minimum off each month but then his circumstances changed and he couldn't make the payments so I put him onto CCCS.
He's been on a debt payment plan for nearly 2 years now but his debts have hardly gone down!!! 2 of the debts are with the Halifax (Amazon & Halifax One) and they are banging charges left right and centre onto the accounts.
Basically on Halifax One it means that the payments he makes to them is just about covering the interest and charges - usually it reduces by £2 or £3 a month but sometimes it goes up. They even charge him 'over limit charges' even though the reason he is over the limit is because of the late payment charges!!!! They harrass him all the time ringing the house 5 or 6 times a day for more payments. They do not recognise the DMP because it's over a year old which is their policy.
Twice now they have agreed to freeze interest at 1% and stop the charges for 3 months at a time and told him to ring after 3 months to 'review' it. But they have't honoured this and continued to bang the interest and charges on the account. Every time he rings he has to go through the whole story again and they claim that 'as from this month' it will be sorted out... it isn't!!!
We've tried writing to them but they ignore the letters.
CCCS have been pretty useless. His debt started at £10703 and it's still almost £9.5k despite the fact that he's paid off over £3100.
They haven't given him any advice except to keep paying what he can afford - but he has been paying £250 a month since he started his new job in Dec which is 29% of his net income and I'm on maternity leave so we are struggling but it all seems to be in vain.
We really don't know what to do. I realise that this debt is smallfry compared to some on here but it will NEVER be paid off at this rate and we feel like we can't move on with our lives. It's so depressing.
Sorry for the rant

Hi Melt really sorry you feel that way, have you had a review of your account recently? If not give us a call to see if there are any other options that are available.
Unfortunately with a dmp, there is no guarantee that a creditor will stop the interest and charges, all we can do is ask them to consider it.
I’m just on my way home, but will PM you tomorrow when I get in work and I will see if there is anything I can help you with.
SarahI am a Debt Counsellor that works for the CCCS and have specific permission from Martin, to post on these boards to try and help those in debt. Read more information on the CCCS and what it does in the Debt Problems: What to do and where to get help article.
CCCS is a registered charity, and there is no charge whatsoever for any of the services we provide to our clients. We take great pride in offering first class help and advice, but we only offer this where we have been able to fully explore and understand your circumstances with you. We want to help you understand these choices and their possible implications but not make them for you.
