Hi friends from "what small DFW things have you done today" thread.
You may remember I applied for a job that wouldn't get me more money but would make me a hundred times happier a couple of weeks ago. Well, today I came home to a letter. It was the well known "I regret to inform you..."
Not even an interview.
I have the minimum qualifications but apparently others showed a wider level of knowledge and experience.
In other words people who are already doing the job get to interview and me, who'd be as good probably better than them doesn't. but because I'm doing a different job just now they are shutting the door to my leap of faith.
I don't know what to say.
It's not that I'm upset. I'm annoyed. I'm something....
Who am I kidding? I'm gutted.
There goes my out.

Aww ktjazz
So so sorry to hear your news, can imagine how frustrating it may be for you, especially when they won't even give you an interview so that you can show them how good you are.
Sending big hugs to you:grouphug:
Try not to dwell on it and get yourself back out there, its their silly loss.
One thought though, is there any way you can do self studying in the area your interested in, not necesserily a course, but books that you can read up on the subject. I used to know someone who would put on their certificate the self studying they had done, so that employers could see the effort they were making.
Also, i know that you are trying to get out of debt and time may be limited, but is there any way you can do some volutary work in the line of work your interested in. This will allow you to gain the experience and show good character, plus doors may open within the place you volunteer at.
I'm really sorry that your gutted and things haven't worked out the way you wanted them to and deserved for them to. Put your feet up and have a glass of wine, or do some small productive jobs that will make you feel good that you can do and achieve things.:grouphug::j Live on £4500, £2531/£4500:T 101 in 1001 (52/101):j:beer::j

:heartpuls :heartpuls Hi KT,
Sorry to hear your news, must be a big blow to your plans for the future, but try not to get too down. Andan has given you some great advice and summed up everything that I would have said. There will be other opportunities in the future, and in the meantime get yourself as much experience, training, etc in that field as you can. Voluntary work is a good idea to get an initial foot in the door, don't give up on your dreams.
Take care.

Sorry to hear that KT. A couple of years ago I was in the same position and it was really disheartening getting constant rejection. To increase my chances I used my holidays to volunteer in the sector I wanted to enter and just kept on trying. Now I have a job that I love. Much as it pains me to agree with her, as my Mother always says "whats for you won't go by you". The perfect job will come to you when you are ready.
Keep your spirits up and follow every opportunity, we are all here to support you and to celebrate your successes when they come!Taking responsibility one penny at a time!0 -

Thanks andan. really.
Here's the thing, I'm already signed up to a course that basically is the 'how to' for this job. i'm doing it in my own time with my own money. It's the first course of it's kind and the first time it's run so nobody can be going in saying they have it already. I have continually been doing qualifications for this line of work on my own.
These jobs so rarely come up. I think I'm going to have to wait until I have thi qualification under my belt for the next one. That means I'm stuck in the job I am growing to hate for at least the next year.
I'm sorry. I'm getting all emotional again.
Why oh why is this so damned hard?!
KTjazz
ps. I've had a REALLY bad day. I might bullet point it tomorrow when hopefully I'll be able to laugh about it.
pps. I went to see OH who I normally don't get to see mid-week. he made me dinner and gave me huggles (no comments about the dodgy hugging icon please... :grouphug: ):hello: - Proud to be dealing with my debts!:j DFW nerd No. 1011!

SM
thank you for your kind words (and the cool loveheart icon!)
I'd love to do voluntary work but unfortunately its not really an option. The job I applied for was working as communication support for the Deaf in a college. I'd kill for voluntary signing posts with the elderly especially (great stories and always a different challenge) but most Deaf charities are very closed off to the idea of volunteers. I think they all have my details, I harrass them yearly but they always say the same thing. A great big fat NO.
A wonderful language I love. Rich culture formed through necessity but more politics than downing street.
I'm not giving up though (well, maybe for tonight...) I can see many a letter getting written!

Thank you Alphie. I've been lucky enough to use holidays to gain experience too but I guess it wasn't enough this time. Maybe next time.
I am going to call them tomorrow. do the scary asking for feedback thing. I want to know what the others had that I didn't have so I can damn well go get it! I'll just have to think of how to word it first though...

ps. my gran used to have "whats for you won't go by you" on a tapestry at the top of her stairs. Whenever I hear that phrase I think of her. So far everything in my life has seemed to come at the right time (except this, I'm not seeing the bigger plan with this one yet...). so I guess it may be true.:hello: - Proud to be dealing with my debts!:j DFW nerd No. 1011!

Hi KT - although I very rarely post in the 'what little DFW' thread, I do read it.
I can understand exactly how you feel - I have been 'applying for jobs' for the past 18 months, and over 90% of my applications either result in the same letter/email that you received - even worse, some of them get no response whatsover.
I have been applying mainly on-line, and am registered with 'reed', 'CV-quest', 'jobsite', 'infojobs Italia' - the 'list' is endless.
So far, I have had about 10 interviews, all of which seem to go extremely well on the day, yet most have resulted in the same 'standard letter' about the extremely high level of applicants etc.'.
In my case, there is also my age - 57 - which, whilst legally should make no difference, I feel that many of the interviews that I have attended have tried to 'market' the position for a 'younger' age group.
I am not trying for any jobs which would be above either my qualifications or experience. On the contrary, I respect the fact that I will have a 'limited shelf life' and have aimed my sights at basic 'sales executive' roles, rather than the management/directorship role that I have done for the last twenty years, and I would be quite happy to 'pass on' any benefits that I may have gained, through my experiences, to others.
Equally, I do not expect for employers to be 'falling over each other' to employ me. After all, my own business ended up with my personal bankruptcy - a fact that I do NOT try to hide from any potential employer - but there were, equally, many good years, as well as good 'reasons' for my bankruptcy.
I have, on my last interview, actually got to the 'second interview' stage, although the first interview was already two weeks ago and the second interview is not until next Friday, but it is a job which attracts me, as well as one which I feel that I could do effectively, so, without building up my hopes, unnecessarily, I am relatively happy to 'wait' (although I continue to apply for other 'jobs').
KT - I hope something comes along for you soon.
Good luckI am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.
