leasehold flat,allocated parking issue

Hello,
i am a private (mortgaged) owner of a 2 bed leasehold in east london. I bought the flat 8 years ago with allocated bay parking.I am now hearing that a few years ago (whilst i was renting it out to a tenant) that the management /freehold company lifted the parking restrictions and told people to just 'park anywhere'. Are they allowed to do this? the car park is a communal area but the parking space is surely part of my property....
any help /advice welcome,
Jo
