Question ref direct debits to creditors

Hi all. I was advised to cancel all direct debits and make my payments by other means, as direct debits enable the creditor to choose the amount that they take. However, I have been thinking about it and have a question...!
I have a secured loan with GE Money, which I pay by direct debit. I planned to continue this, but I am concerned as I have an Evans storecard which is run/owned by GE Money that I am offering a token payment to - if the direct debit for the secured loan continues, would they be able to take more money out of my account than is required for the secured loan to pay for the storecard? I'd really prefer to keep this direct debit in place, but will pay by other means if possible if I am running a risk by keeping the direct debit.
Thanks in advance for any advice offered.

I don,t think they can take a increased amount from a direct debit to pay another account . But a bank can take monies from an account to pay a different debt with the same bank .0
