Hi,
At 18 you probably are looking at "slave labour" jobs. We have all done them. It show other future employers you are hard working and hopefully a good time keeper. This will stand you in good stead for later on. Sorry, but lets be honest at 18 you are not qualified nor experienced to obtain "good" jobs. The economy is going through upheaval, grab any rotten job and make money. Your mum will be proud that you are helping out. Good luck.0 -
My DS who is currently on break from uni struggled to get a job, he now does one of those 'slave labour' ones you dismissed. He works 8.30 - 6 every weekday plus 7 hours on a Saturday moving and unpacking boxes in a factory.
I admit he was reluctant at first as he had hoped for an office job or something where he needed to think, but in the end he needed the money. He has actually started to enjoy himself, manual labour means he is getting fit, he works with a great bunch and he has real money in his pocket every pay day and is saving for the deposit on a house a few years down th eline.
Don't dismiss any job at all, you'll be surprised what turns up if you lower your sights a bit and you might even enjoy it.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. I began my working life in a very low paid job (before min wage exsisted), fortunately my employer saw my potential and I was promoted to a better pay.
By taking a slave labour job you are gaining work experiance, you will learn the skills you need to work as part of a team, and most important of all it will prepare you for better paid jobs in the future.
Your first job will dictate whether you are reliable, a good time keeper and able to work as part of a team / on your own initiative. So that when the time comes to move on you will have a glowing reference.
It is also important not to job hop too much, employers like members who stay at one job for some lenght of time, not ones in a job one week then off to another the next.
You could also consider learning new skills part time at college to improve your prospects futher.
