  • I am in a house which is eeeerrrr - not exactly in show room state, it should have been knocked down by now but planning permission has been delayed and owner doesn't want squatters - nor do they want to do it up!So in a way we are house sitting (family connection to owner). It is just old, though - thankfully its warm and dry.Mind you the fireplace had been removed so I just painted the bricks black and there are lots of logs in the shed we can use for the fire. It was built in 30's but we have a great garden with 2 brimming pear trees, one big cooking apple tree and lots of blackberries.....all ripening now. Was going to try and exchange some of this for veg at the local greengrocers (haven't had the nerve yet). Kids love the place, tiled floors and big garden/field with shed. It feels like being on holiday - goodness know what the winter will be like though!

    Good for you!!

With the money you've saved you could maybe get a couple of oil filled radiators around the place for some additional heat?
  • lol - it does have central heating, its just I don't want to spend the money on it unless really necessary. Putting everything into clearing debts. The only thing is, I would be a bit embarrassed to have visitors, its not THAT bad its just everyone I seem to know has a show house!

Dont worry about having a show house, I'm sure its not that bad. The fruit trees sound lovely.

Who cares what it looks like!!! It's your home and in it are the ones you love. If you only have visitors that love you too, then they won't give a monkey's!!!

We once visited relly's who were 'renovating' and had no roof and we slept in what was once the upstairs under the skies. No bathroom - had to pee in the field, and poo in the field further down!! Fab visit!!!
  • Lol - we do have a loo though its up the strangest flight of stairs ever. They are steep and less than 2 ft wide (probably illegal). Our bedroom is up there too. Son (8 ) keeps nipping out to field to piddle rather then face the stairs.:rotfl:(Thankfully no body over looks it)
