2nd-had computer

I need to buy a 2nd-hand computer, either laptop or desktop. Can anyone please recommend a place?
This machine will be a backup, so it need not be cutting edge. However, it should be reliable and reasonably fast.
BTW, where may I discharge my unwanted computer? I do not want to simply put it in the bin; any appropriate place for it?
Many thanks.

This guy sells refurbished Dells and others , stock continuously changes. Every month or so he has £50 off sales MCS
Computer fairs also have a stall or two selling off old corporate and education stock. I got a Dell Optiplex 900mhz with Windows 2k ( and certificate sticker), Linux, 20 gig hard drive and 256m mem for £30, at the Barnsley fair. Be prepared to haggle.

You might be better asking this question in the tech forum. There are some charities that take old computers - you should have some locally. It depends on how much you want to spend on your second hand compter. You can get new ones for under £200 all inc. Have a look at Dell they usually have offers - generally posted on the grabit board when there is a particularly good one on.0
