Halifax Homeowner Loan

Hi,
I'm considering applying for a loan to be added to my mortgage which is through Halifax. We loaned £40,000 9 years ago and would like to loan around £15000 on top of this for home improvements. We tried to get this a few years ago and they turned us down as we were having some credit problems at the time (about 6 years ago) but now after checking our credit reports (mine was excellent, boyfriends above average) we are thinking of trying again! Could anyone tell me which credit search companys Halifax use as we really do need the money for the house but I'm so scared of being turned down! I've recently applied for a Barclaycard to pay off another credit card and have been successfull but last month went over my limit (my fault completely) on my Citi bank. This is all sorted out now and they will be recieving a large payment of £990 in a few days anyway but I'm scared that this has runied our chances!

Please can anyone give me some advice on this.
Thank you
Nicky:confused:
