Why can't I get a job?

Options
My employment background is customer service with some retail experience. I have been out of work for 5.5 months and been doing a couple of temp jobs. The first one should be an assignment for six weeks - but wanted eight weeks, but as I was going on holiday after the six weeks, they didn't want me at all. So instead of working six weeks, I did 3 days.

The other temp job was for maternity cover. Was expecting for the job to end late Jan. There was someone who did the role before me for 4.5 months. Then 4 weeks into the job, the person who I was covering wanted to come back after 6 months, not a year.

I have been applying for roles which are lower paid than my previous jobs and roles where from reading the personal specification - I hit all of the essential criteria and the job description - I have done 95% of the areas (though they said full training will be provided) and still I don't get an interview or an acknowledgement of my application! Then there are those assessment centres - which I have mentioned. I will try to be a little more dominant next time.

I am getting sick and tired of job hunting and getting rather depressed. There is so much you can do with regards to job hunting etc each day.

I am finding the work is on the other side of the county where I live. It's not easy driving there. I would like to move out of my parents and move nearer there, but letting agents will not allow me to rent a property with no job and some will not let me use my parents as a guarantor due their ages.

I don't have any friends who will let me houseshare as I don't have any. I have lost contact with them as they never bothered to respond to my e-mails when we were at uni.

Nor do I have any relatives that live nearby. If I do, they are either too frail or don't have a spare room for me to live in.

My parents are willing to support me, but I am losing sleep over this and want someone to give me a permament job or a long term temp role.

I just need something to concentrate my mind on things. I am getting rather bored.

My parents suggest me to do a hobby - hobbys cost money!

Re-read the bit I've put in bold. You WANT someone to GIVE you a permanent job... perhaps here lies the problem, as if this sort of attitude comes across in an assessment or interview, then you certainly won't be considered for a job.

Personally I would apply for ANY job, as waitressing is better than a gap on your CV.

Have you posted your CV on a recruitment site? Have you had help making your CV look as competitive as possible?

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

If you're not getting an interview from your job applications then it could be that you are doing something wrong. In effect the job application is a sales document for yourself.

If you are simply not hearing back from applications then the chances are that your application is not being read.

I presume you are registered with agencies?

How about getting yourself an Avon roundor something like that? Although I'm with Avon I'm not trying to canvass you!! I joined a few years ago to get myself out of a rut and have something else to think about. I've met a lot of people from it too. It's about £15 to join but you don't pay upfront, it comes out of your commission from the first 2 books you do. There are other things like this about too so you may find something that suits you better. You won't make a fortune but a few extra quid is nice for not much effort, you'll benefit from the fresh air and have some sort of sense of achievement.

I know this does not probably help at the moment and sounds like shutting the stable door after the horse has bolted but if you are doing temp work for say 8 weeks you should not have told them about your 2 weeks holiday until a couple of days before you were going. I would have kept quiet !
You do not have to show any loyalty whatsoever to the temp client as they will show no loyalty to you when they can suddenly turn round and say to you at 5.00 end of day that you are no longer needed !
