i currently have a mortgage but am looking to going BK in the next couple of months. so i have been searching for a house to rent.
is it wrong that i do not tell the estate agents that i am going to be going BK? and if i do not tell them, when i do go BK, are they likely to a: find out? and b: evict me?
thanks.

Both my husband and I went bankrupt. When we were calling around for somewhere to rent, we made sure that the letting agents were happy to let to undischarged bankrupts, Three main reasons:
(a) Our OR asked for a copy of our letting agreement as they use it to confirm you are paying the rent you are claiming. They may also tell your LL if there is something in your agreement about not being bankrupt.
(b) We asked all of the lettings agents we spoke to if they had a problem letting to undischarged bankrupts, simply because we didn't want to find somewhere we thought was perfect then discover they wouldn't rent to us.
(c) Do you really want to make your fresh start with a lie? Isn't it better to be up front and honest now, and not be panicking about them possibly finding out.

Sorry to hijack the thread but..Merry, did the LA then go on to credit check you and dump the costs of the CC on you? even after you admitted to being BRThe first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. We had to pay for references to be taken anyway, and provide a guarantor, but that is their standard practice. We have a big student population (2 universities) so this is their standard for all of the people they rent to. We paid one month in advance but nothing in particular just because we were going br.
Did you get lumbered??

Thanks Merry.
No not yet, but i'm looking at moving soon and just wondered what happened when you admitted that you'd fail the CC.
From what i remember, LA try to charge an extortionate and unreasonble amount for credit checks. I just wondered if you admitted that you'd fail them would that stop them trying to charge this ridiculous amount. Silly me..how would they make loads of money from those that can't afford it:rolleyes:The first time we said hello, was the first time we said goodbye. Hi, I would ask the LA for a blank copy of there letting agreement & read the terms & conditions. Then you can always ask generalised questions. My LA emailled me a copy .
Remember that at the moment you are not BR & although you may be considering it you are not BR yet.
Also make sure that you have spoken to the debt charities to make absolutely sure that this is the right route for you.
