Getting a job in Yorkshire

*****My First Post - Please be gentle********

Over the last year I have been looking for Managerial Role in Manufacturing having become dissatisfied with current Blue Chip Employer. Having seen interesting jobs advertisied over this time I have ended up putting my name down with a number of different agencies.
The reason for my post is to complain about the shocking service I have recieved from the vast majority of these agencies. I realise they have to deal with a large number of people, but the poor levels of response, their smug attitude to individuals when discussing your capabilities and most crticially their lack of honesty made the whole experience far more stressful than it needed to be. By far the worst was Michael Page - who on two separate occassions put me forward for a job before ignoring all my communication for 2 weeks - leaving me to assume that I hadn't been successful.
Thankfully I have now left for a great job thanks to the one Agency who stood out - Hudson (incidentally MP also put people forward for the role - they didn't think I was suitable!!!!). They have a different structure where they have agents who are specifically focus on the candidates - they were excellent throughout the process for communication and honesty.

So my advice would be to use them where possible - and if you're a hiring business out there DON'T USE MICHAEL PAGE, even if they are cheaper

Would be really interested to here others experiences!!!!

I have used a number of agencys over the years and found most to be a waste of time, but always found Freight Personnel/Mangement Personnel in Manchester to be Good and also a used a few small local ones to me which have been good, but mostly applied to them through totaljobs and monster, but have found just listing with most agencys is a waste of time, the totaljobs route worked best for me

Yes, they're a complete waste of space - why can't they actually listen to the candidate and employer. I've been on both sides and they are truly exasperating. Particulary useless are Accountancy Personnel at Preston.

As a candidate, they managed to send my full details (including name) to my current employer! They weren't impressed at all.

Then, despite me saying exactly which locations I was prepared to work, they set up a day full of appointments in a different town - they didn't even agree the date beforehand with me, and were very annoyed when I told them I wasn't going!

Another time, they told me the wrong date for an interview - I wasted a day off work and looked a right pillock when I turned up a week early!

And as for feedback, you can forget it. They never once contacted me after an interview, time and time again, I had to chase them and often, even weeks after, they hadn't even spoken to the employer to find out.

Even now, some 20 years later, they still phone and send letters even though I keep telling them, over and over again, I'm not interested and to delete me from their records.

As an employer, they constantly sent me details of people who were clearly not appropriate for the jobs I specified, and I interviewed loads of people where their "real" experience was completely different from the agency's cv - they make it up as they go along.

Avoid them like the plague is my advice.
