Redundancy Negotiation advice

Hi Everyone

This is my first post since joining the site 5 months ago - watching from afar until now and a little scared to post, so here you go!

I am at risk of redundancy after working for my employer in a Management capacity for the past 10.5 years. I will find out next week on August 20th if I am definitely in a redundancy situation, however I believe it is a reality.

The potential offer of redundancy is 10 weeks notice, which they will potentially make me work and then 10 weeks basic salary paid as a redundancy package. (is it normal to have to work your notice or can I request Garden Leave?)

As I know this is more than the government stat. of £330 pw I still feel I need to negotiate the best deal possible and 10 weeks salary is in my eyes a poor offer to compensate me for the loss of my career and is not a very generous payout for 10.5 years service and commitment. ( I work in a highly pressurised sales and service sector) As it would not include my car allowance, bonus, healthcare or pension contributions.

I don't know were to start and can't find out what average or excellent packages consist of through my research on the internet - it maybe that it is a fair deal, it just doesn't feel like it!

Can anyone share their experience in terms of negotiating packages and also how their package was made up financially. I just want some benchmarking to enable me to have a headstart in negotiating a better deal as the climate for a new job feels really uncertain at the moment and with a mortgage & 2 small children the thought of suffering financial loss is really scary......Do I have to accept at the end of the day what they offer if my requests for an enhanced package are turned down?

Lastly does anyone know what the difference is between Severence Pay and Redundancy Pay?

Any help on all these questions would be very much appreciated, it feels really bleak for me at the moment
